Product Story

This is the wristwatch whose dial features a genuine circulated 1943 steel penny produced to support the U.S. war effort during the height of WWII. Minted for only one year, "steelies" replaced traditional copper pennies because the U.S. military needed the copper, which was in short supply. The penny used in this watch has been silver-ion plated to preserve its face, as the steel - though originally zinc galvanized - is prone to rusting. The analog watch has luminous hour and minute hands, a sweep second hand, and large numbers for easy reading, while quartz movement ensures accurate timekeeping. The stainless steel case is splash resistant and the watch's dial is protected behind a scratch-resistant mineral crystal. The padded brown leather strap secures with a polished metal clasp and fits wrists up to 9 1/4" in circumference. 1 1/2" diameter x 1/2" D. (3 1/2 oz.)
