The Golden Ratio Twistmas Tree

This is the tabletop Christmas tree whose twistable branches follow the Golden Ratio, a geometrical principle of proportion that is thought to look most pleasing to the human eye. The Ratio can be seen in nature in the progressively smaller whorls of a seashell, or in the balanced lines of artworks such as the Mona Lisa. In the twistmas tree, it is applied to the 72 branches, which are each slightly longer than the branch above. These basswood bars are painted in alternating colors of Kelly green, pine green, and chartreuse and affixed to a central axis that can be rotated to create a variety of intriguing decorations, from a traditional triangular tree to a mesmerizing spiral. 17" H x 9 1/4" W x 4 1/4" D.
