The Hand Inlaid Greek Olive Burl Backgammon Set

This is the backgammon set that is crafted in Greece from local olive wood and hand-inlaid with accents hewn from other Mediterranean trees. Imported exclusively by Hammacher Schlemmer, the regulation-size board showcases the one-of-a-kind swirls and grain of the burls from an olive trunk. Skilled woodworkers painstakingly hand cut and assemble elaborate patterns that make up the center diamond and 24 points using mahogany, olive, and rose wood. The board is then lacquered with at least three coats of satin varnish to preserve the natural wood grain. Smooth checkers are made from solid olive wood to provide a satisfying weight in the hand and produce the familiar “clicking” and “clacking” sounds heard at café tables throughout the Greek Islands.
