This is the handmade kite inspired by the legend of the "Flying Dutchman" ghost ship. Since the 18th century, mariners have claimed to spot the fabled brigantine struggling around the Cape of Good Hope, and this elaborate kite brings to life the vessel's double masts and eleven sails. Handmade from lightweight nylon and bamboo just like the kites that zip across skies in Bali during the windy season—no two kites are exactly the same—it has an aerodynamic bamboo frame, and like modern sea-faring ships, its white sails are stitched from nylon, a fabric preferred because it stretches but will not tear in gusty conditions. Includes 200 yards of cotton kite twine. Ages 8 and up. Assembly required. 36" H x 36" W x 34" D. (1 lb.)
