Product Story

This is the pair of handmade speaker hornlets first created for an audio installation at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Unlike common full-range speakers that use a downward-firing cabinet topology, these speakers force resonance upward through the horn, creating a three-dimensional, "holographic" soundstage. Each highly sensitive speaker employs a 3" full-range driver for a larger-than-life acoustic effect. Handmade by a Chicago manufacturer of musical instruments whose clients range from Andrew Bird to Blue Oyster Cult, each one-of-a-kind hornlet is made using surprising sustainable materials¿recycled newsprint and dryer lint¿that are coated with shellac. The bases are made of premium Baltic birch plywood. Dark Green. 19" H; base 5" square. (3 lbs.)
