Product Story

This is the 100% wool beret made in France by a 175-year-old company. The Basque-style beret originated as a shepherd’s hat, providing protection from the sun in the summer and the cold in the winter. It has remained a symbol of style and French culture since the 1800’s spanning from the Pyrenées Mountains to La Rive Gaunche. Its popularity expanded across the Atlantic during the golden age of Hollywood when film directors and movie stars such as Greta Garbo and Jean Harlow donned the look of the left bank. Hand crafted from pure Merino virgin wool, it is plush yet water resistant, and is satin-lined with a leather headband. Spot clean. Unisex. Black. S (head circumference 21 1/2"), M (22 1/4"), L (23"), or XL (24").

How To Determine Your Hat Size

To get the proper fit in a hat, we recommend that you measure your head to determine your proper hat size.

How to Measure Your Head
  • Use a good quality tape measure, such as those used for sewing, to achieve the most accurate measurement.
  • Wrap the measuring tape around your head. The tape should be placed where you want the hat to rest, usually 1/8-inch to 1/2-inch above the top of your ears. For the best-looking and most comfortable fit, the bottom of the tape should touch your eyebrows while positioned straight around your head. Don't pull the tape too snugly or your hat will fit that tightly.
  • Once you've positioned the tape exactly where you want it, measure to the nearest one-eighth inch, or three millimeters.
  • Measure your head a second and third time to ensure accuracy.
