Melanopsin and encephalopsin, the receptor proteins that help control these functions, are photosensitive, meaning even light passed through the ear and skull can trigger their action. Made in Finland, where daylight wanes as the winter approaches, these earbuds require only 12 minutes of daily exposure to their integrated LEDs to increase a wearer’s energy levels and alertness—they have been shown in clinical trials to reduce seasonal symptoms such as mood swings and lack of energy while improving overall wellness.
