The Oversized Outdoor Chess Set

This is the backyard chess set that uses oversized Staunton chess pieces made by John Jaques, the 212 year-old English company that made the original Staunton pieces in 1849, named after English chessmaster Howard Staunton. Made of durable, UV-resistant nylotex bonded plastic that will not fade, the pieces are roughly 9X the size of those used in standard chess sets, replicating the classic Staunton shapesthe most widely recognized chess pieces in the world. The king stands 21 1/4"' high, yet weighs only 1 lb. (pawns weigh 3/4 lb.), so the pieces are easy to pick up and maneuver for players of all ages. The board is made of 64 flexible interlocking black and white tiles, making i t an efficient, stable platform for play on lawns that arent perfectly level and for easy storage.
