The Sir Davy's Welsh Miner's Lamp
ItemProduct Story
This is the miner’s lamp based on the design of Sir Humphry Davy’s historic safety lamp invented in 1815. The original models were used by colliers during the Industrial Revolution in Wales to detect the presence of “firedamp”—the explosive gasses encountered while mining—and the lack of oxygen. Made in Aberdare, South Wales, this reproduction lamp is handcrafted by the sons and daughters of miners and updated for modern ornamental use. The flame is housed in a glass cylinder and the lamp is finished in brass. Burns for up to three hours using paraffin or lamp oil (not included). 9" H x 3 1/2" Diam. (2 1/4 lbs.)
