The Smithsonian Institute Childrens Model Engine Kit

From the Smithsonian Institute, this model kit teaches children how to build and understand an internal combustion engine that safely runs on battery power instead of gasoline, yet has moving parts comparable to the original four-stroke cycle engine first patented by Nikolaus August Otto in 1867. There are over 100 working components in the kit, allowing children to carefully construct the model engine from the ground up. A transparent cylinder block allows young mechanics to see how the connected parts work in concert to power a vehicle. Once complete, the engine is started using a small electric motor, resulting in the "firing" of the spark plugs, valve sequence cycles, piston motion, shaft rotation, and belt turning.
