The Statesman's Executive Chair

This chair is made from the same design as the original executive office chair used by former Chancellor of Germany Helmut Kohl, who held the office from 1982 to 1998. Developed in 1975 by internationally renowned furniture designer Otto Zapf, this reincarnation of the chair is made in Bavaria near Augsburg from the finest materials available using Zapf's original design. The chair is composed of five separately upholstered sections; the seat, armrests, lumbar, mid-back, and head sections are handcrafted from rich top-grain napa leather produced from European cattle hides that have been traditionally oiled and cured for a soft luxurious feel and high shine. Each section is filled with hypoallergenic polyurethane foam, and the chair's three back sections slide onto two 2 1/2" diam. 12-gauge spring steel frame supports that rise up from the plywood frame that forms the core of the seat base, resulting in a chair that is both ergonomic and resilient, providing a lifetime of use. Supporting the seat is a five-leg star base made of polished aluminum, finished by five 2 1/2" sturdy oversized nylon casters that can roll on hard floors or carpet. A knee-tilt mechanism allows you to keep your feet on the floor as you tilt back, so you are always sitting in a position that is optimal for blood flow to your legs, and it has pneumatic adjustment that provides a seating height range of 17"-20" from the floor; the three-section padded backrest provides 20" of back support from the seat.
