Product Story

Patterned after the hat worn in Australia's rugged outback, this is the drover hat made from water-repellent wax cotton. Only avaliable from Hammacher Schlemmer, the densely woven 100% cotton fibers are impregnated with paraffin wax, creating a water-resistant hat that provides reliable protection from rain. The brim extends 2 5/8" from the front and back to shield the face and neck from the elements and the wax cotton blocks 98% of harmful UVA/UVB rays for a UPF rating of 50+¿the highest attainable. An adjustable strap that goes under the chin, through the hat, and around the back of the head prevents the hat from coming off during high winds. The hand-sewn hat has durable lock-stitched seams, four brass grommets that provide ventilation, and a pocket in the crown that provides discreet storage for a credit card or identification. Machine washable.

How To Determine Your Hat Size

To get the proper fit in a hat, we recommend that you measure your head to determine your proper size according to the standard hat sizing chart shown below.

How to Measure Your Head
  • Use a good quality tape measure, such as those used for sewing, to achieve the most accurate measurement.
  • Wrap the measuring tape around your head. The tape should be placed where you want the hat to rest, usually 1/8-inch to 1/2-inch above the top of your ears. For the best-looking and most comfortable fit, the bottom of the tape should touch your eyebrows while positioned straight around your head. Don't pull the tape too snugly or your hat will fit that tightly.
  • Once you've positioned the tape exactly where you want it, measure to the nearest one-eighth inch, or three millimeters.
  • Measure your head a second and third time to ensure accuracy.
