The large 8-foot clearance makes it a practical cover for everyday use over a courtyard, pool apron or patio. Engineered to withstand 80 mph winds (must be closed when winds reach 55 mph), it is installed the same way as a flagpole-seated in concrete. Once installed, the pole will be surrounded by a ground sleeve embedded in concrete for extra stability. Unlike other umbrellas, this one cannot collapse on its own and also doesn't utilize wires or pulleys. A sealed gear mechanism raises and lowers the shade-protecting moving parts from the elements. A corded drill with an Allen wrench drill bit (bit included) inserted into the mechanism opens and closes the umbrella. Cloth canopy resists fading and mildew. All components are non-rust galvanized steel finished in a polyester glossy powder coat. Since the pole is seated in concrete, making it a permanent fixture, professional installation is recommended.
