The Hammacher Schlemmer Institute determined this sun hat to be the best available for sun protection. From Tilley Endurables, Canada's premier purveyor of travel clothing for over 25 years, the hat outscored nine other hats in UV protection tests conducted by an independent testing laboratory, earning a 50+ UPF rating--the highest-possible--for its ability to block 98% of harmful UV rays. The front and back of the brim extend to 3 1/4" from the crown to protect the face and neck while the sides protect ears by extending to 2 1/2". It is made of tightly woven yet breathable 100% nylon with a durable weather and stain repellant finish. The crown and brim have a layer of closed-cell foam that provides buoyancy; a secret pocket secures currency and IDs. The vented mesh crown provides superior heat release while a built in sweat band wicks away moisture. The hat scored best for wearability after withstanding five washings without shrinking; can be easily cleaned with cold water and soap, and air-dried. Made in Canada. Khaki. To get the proper fit in a hat, we recommend that you measure your head to determine your proper size according to the standard hat sizing chart shown below.
- Use a good quality tape measure, such as those used for sewing, to achieve the most accurate measurement.
- Wrap the measuring tape around your head. The tape should be placed where you want the hat to rest, usually 1/8-inch to 1/2-inch above the top of your ears. For the best-looking and most comfortable fit, the bottom of the tape should touch your eyebrows while positioned straight around your head. Don't pull the tape too snugly or your hat will fit that tightly.
- Once you've positioned the tape exactly where you want it, measure to the nearest one-eighth inch, or three millimeters.
- Measure your head a second and third time to ensure accuracy.
